MythBusters Talking Bobbleheads a Hit with Fans

I thought this would be like a regular plastic bobblehead you get at a fast-food place or a tourist trap! WRONG. This is amazing. It's made of porcelain, has unbelievable detail, is bigger than you think, and talks! This is an absolute must purchase for any MythBusters fan you know.

DiscoveryStore.com customer review

Situation

On behalf of Discovery Channel, Delivery Agent enlisted BDA to develop MythBusters bobbleheads fashioned after the cable hit's affable hosts, Adam Savage and Jamie Hyneman.

Challenge

Discovery Channel wasn't interested in standard bobbleheads, knowing the show's audience would expect a more creative final product. Ultimately, the client requested a set of talking bobbleheads.

Solution

Once a concept for the bobbleheads was determined, Discovery Channel provided 360-degree images of the hosts for BDA to use as a blueprint. The design team matched the clothing, facial expressions and poses down to the last detail, from Adam's wavy hair and horn-rimmed glasses to Jamie's beret and thick goatee. The biggest challenge was matching the look of Jamie's signature sunglasses, as initial designs were found to be too fragile for transport. While the final sculpts of the bobbleheads were being reviewed, work continued on the sound chips. Adam and Jamie each recorded three sayings for their bobblehead, which you can activate with the push of a button on the base.

Result

BDA delivered a set of bobbleheads that captures the mischievous spirit of the hosts, as Adam's figurine is tied to a rocket and Jamie’s is holding the remote. Delivery Agent ordered 30,000 of the MythBusters bobbleheads and reported strong sales. In addition to selling the bobbleheads, Discovery Channel engaged show’s social media community, encouraging viewers to share pictures of the dynamic duo’s "travels" on the MythBusters Facebook page. It’s like Jamie's bobblehead says, "When will the fun ever stop?"
