Maker of the ‘baddest earphones on the planet’ acquired by BDA

Munitio earphones are made out of 9mm bullet casings, and they are built to provide mind-blowing sound. Now, the high-end earphones have landed in the hands of a Seattle area company, with Bensussen Deutsch & Associates announcing that it has acquired the San Diego maker of earphones and other mobile electronics products.

Munitio earphones don’t come cheap, ranging in price from $159 to $179. And then there’s the perception of sticking a bullet casing in your head to listen to music.

Nonetheless, the reviews of the earphones have been glowing. Wired noted that the earphones “are worth their weight in … titanium.” Meanwhile, Munitio dubs them the “baddest earphones on the planet.”

The purchase of Munitio represents a continued expansion by Bensussen Deutsch & Associates into tech-oriented products. It also has expanded into iPhone cases, game controllers and headphones. The company is best known for the creation of customized products for corporate clients, including bobbleheads, baseball caps, key chains and lawn chairs.

“We’re absolutely thrilled to be adding a brand of the caliber of Munitio to our family. This partnership creates a strong force in the consumer electronics space,” said Eric Bensussen, BDA co-founder and president. “They’re true innovators. We’re ready to combine efforts to grow the Munitio brand and its distribution channels.”

BDA employs more than 500 people, while Munitio’s four staffers will join the company.

The deal comes just a few days after HTC announced plans to invest $300 million in Beats by Dr. Dre, also a maker of earphones and other high-end audio products.
