The Kansas City Chiefs called on BDA for a creative merchandise solution to replace the current printed magazine and propel the team’s “Red Thursday” fundraising efforts for Ronald McDonald House of Charities (RMHC) and the Omaha Parks Foundation. BDA was asked to keep costs low and develop merchandise that would generate fan excitement throughout the community.
To inspire collectability and annual donations, BDA produced a commemorative, limited edition “This is Chiefs Kingdom” flag to be sold at McDonald’s restaurants in the greater Kansas City area. BDA leveraged its vast vendor network and global factory relationships to keep quality high and costs low. 92,000 flags were delivered to 170 participating locations.
The Kansas City community rallied around the flag promotion and raised $135,000 for McDonald’s RMHC and the Omaha Parks Foundation that first season, a 65% increase over the former paper promotions. That very next season the Chiefs raised more than $175,000 in a single day of selling the flags, a fundraising record and a 77% increase from the first season.
